Report on College Council Meeting No. (609)

The Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University, held its College Council Meeting No. (609) on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Faculty Council Meeting Hall. The session was chaired by Prof. Sherif Massoud El-Badawy, Dean of the Faculty, and attended by the Vice-Deans, Heads of Academic Departments, Directors of Specific Programs, emeritus professors, and representatives from external community institutions.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. El-Badawy extended warm congratulations to:
- Prof. Ibrahim Lotfi El-Kalla on his appointment as Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
- Prof. Sahar Sedky on her appointment as Advisor for Specific Programs.
- Assoc. Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Metwally (Department of Public Works Engineering) on his appointment as Director of the Laboratory Unit.
- Assoc. Prof. Riham Mohsen Ezz El-Din (Head of the Irrigation and Hydraulics Engineering Department) on her appointment as Director of the Quality Assurance Unit.
- Assoc. Prof. Mohamed Gar El-Alam on his appointment as Director of the International Relations Office.
- Dr. Aya Abu El-Naga on her appointment as Director of the International Students Unit.

He also expressed sincere appreciation to Prof. Mervat Abu El-Khair for her valuable efforts during her tenure as Director of the Quality Assurance Unit.

The Dean congratulated faculty members and researchers whose names appeared on the Stanford–Elsevier list of the world’s top 2% of scientists for 2025, as well as those who received university awards or were selected as members of the Scientific Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities. He further congratulated Mansoura University for being recognized as the Best University in Student Activities, and Assoc. Prof. Mohamed Zahran (Department of Public Works Engineering) for his selection as a member of the Scientific Committee for Space and Geosciences.

During the session, Prof. El-Badawy reviewed recent faculty activities, including:
- The Orientation Day for new students, which featured an exhibition of student projects organized by the Student Projects Unit, alongside welcoming events for students enrolled in the Artificial Intelligence, Electronics and Communications, Mechatronics, Textile, and Production and Mechanical Design programs.
- A seminar on “Occupational Burnout” and scientific field visits, including a trip of Electrical Power Engineering students (Renewable and Sustainable Energy Program) to ABB factories in 10th of Ramadan City; a field trip of Structural Engineering students with the Construction and Building Program to the Downtown Towers project in New Alamein City by CSCEC; and a visit by Electronics and Communications students to the factory of the Egyptian Company for Educational Technology Development (PEDO).
- A workshop on international accreditation requirements (ISO/IEC 17025).
- The announcement by the Science and Technology Funding Authority for new research grant applications.
- A series of specialized workshops hosted under the Fulbright-funded project supporting people of determination, in addition to the Energy Modeling Workshop and a collaborative event with the University of Cologne (Germany) on Iwater.
- A visit by Dr. Moataz Mohamed, representative of McMaster University (Canada), within the framework of the memorandum of understanding between the two universities.
- The technical support visit from the University’s Excellence and Future Foresight Team.
- Egypt’s recent accession to the Horizon Europe research and innovation program.

The Dean also praised the student competitions organized by the Structural Engineering Department and Construction and Building Program, held in honor of Professors Mahmoud El-Imam and Ahmed El-Nemr. He referred to community engagement activities through visits of Delta Language School and El-Malek El-Kamel Secondary School under the supervision of the Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector.

He further noted his meetings with the leaders of student competition teams, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Asmaa El-Awadi (Director of the Student Projects and Competitions Unit), as well as his meetings with students of academic departments and specific programs. He encouraged participation in the 14th Mansoura University Book Fair.

Prof. El-Badawy also referred to the ninth scientific meeting of the Structural Engineering Department, the seminar on electronic gambling held in collaboration with Al-Azhar and the “Bidaya” initiative, and the breakfast organized with faculty staff and employees.

He presented a proposal for revising the Faculty’s organizational structure and commended the notable range of student activities and competitions recently implemented. The annual citation metrics of the Faculty’s journal were also reviewed.

Finally, Prof. El-Badawy honored several distinguished staff members and technicians for their dedication and service, presenting certificates of appreciation to:
- Dr. Mahmoud Saad, Director of the Technical and Laboratory Services Center, for his outstanding contributions, particularly in the Textiles Unit and laboratory accreditation achievements.
- Several employees from the Specific Programs Office for their commitment and dedication.
- Dr. Abdel-Khaleq El-Adl, Director of the Workshops Unit, and a large number of technicians from the carpentry, painting, and metal workshops.

The meeting concluded with discussion of the agenda items, followed by decisions made in coordination with the esteemed members of the College.
