Report on the Activities of the Delta Region Universities Summit for Sustainable Development: From Challenge to Launch
In line with Mansoura University’s commitment to supporting the nation’s goals for sustainable development and addressing environmental and economic challenges, the Faculty of Engineering at Mansoura University hosted the opening session of the “Delta Region Universities Summit for Sustainable Development: From Challenge to Launch.” The event took place on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM in Prof. Magdy Abu Rayan Conference Hall.
Opening Session
The summit began with a speech by Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President of Mansoura University. His address covered:
- The university’s role in supporting national projects.
- The university’s contribution to achieving the objectives of Egypt’s 2023 national plan.
- The university’s commitment to its roles in education, scientific research, and community service.
Following this, Prof. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University and current President of the Delta Region Universities Alliance, delivered a presentation highlighting:
- The alliance’s activities during the previous period.
- Achievements in collaborative efforts among the universities.
Reception and Organization
The guests were welcomed by:
- Prof. Sherif Massoud – Dean of the Faculty of Engineering
- Prof. Sahar Sedky – Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs
- Prof. Amira Yassin – Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development
Working Sessions
On the sidelines of the summit, five specialized working sessions were held across the university’s faculties, discussing several strategic themes:
At the Faculty of Engineering:
1. Climate change, coastal erosion, biodiversity, and adaptation
2. Architectural sustainability and digital transformation
At the Faculty of Commerce:
3. Regions and the circular economy
At the Faculty of Agriculture:
4. Soil issues and pollution
Student Projects Exhibition
An exhibition of student projects from various faculties was organized alongside the summit, where students showcased innovative ideas supporting environmental sustainability, digital transformation, and the green economy.
Honoring and Handover of Alliance Presidency
- Prof. Sherif Khater honored the presidents of the Delta Region universities who attended the opening session.
- At the conclusion of the session, the presidency of the Delta Region Universities Alliance was handed over from Mansoura University to Tanta University, reflecting the principle of rotation and institutional integration among the universities.
