A Report on the introductory meeting on Elsevier publishing products

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Sherif El-Badawy, Interim Dean of the Faculty and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and organized by Dr. Mostafa El-Bahloul, Director of the Scientific Research Support Unit, faculty of engineering, an introductory meeting was held on the tools of the global publishing house Elsevier, which are available for free use by Egyptian researchers through the Egyptian Knowledge Bank. The meeting was presented by Dr. Mohamed Raed, Customer Success Officer at the Elsevier Egypt Office, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 3:00 PM, via Zoom. The meeting was attended by a large group of faculty members, and graduate students. It lasted for two hours.

The meeting began with an introduction to Elsevier and how its role in scientific research has evolved around the world over the years since its inception. The lecturer then reviewed the most important tools available on the publishing house platform, such as Scopus, the capabilities available in it, and how to use them. The lecturer then moved on to the second tool, SciVal, where he explained its importance and how to understand the various indicators in it to exploit them for the benefit of the research process. The lecturer then explained the latest tools added to Egyptian researchers, which is Funding Institutional, and clarified its features and how to make the best use of the calls and research projects available on it. This was followed by a brief explanation of the most famous publishing house tools, which is ScienceDirect, which allows scientific research published in the scientific journals affiliated with the publishing house. The meeting included many examples and interactive applications with the attendees to make the most of the meeting topic. At the end of the meeting, the lecturer stressed the necessity of trying all the tools and exploiting all available capabilities to understand them well and exploit the indicators in a way that benefits the research process.
