Nominations open for the “L’Oréal–UNESCO International Prize for Women in Science” 2027
As part of efforts to support scientific research and increase women’s participation across scientific fields, nominations are now open for the L’Oréal–UNESCO International Prize for Women in Science 2027. This prestigious international award recognizes outstanding women scientists for their significant contributions to advancing knowledge and serving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The prize is awarded to women who have achieved exceptional scientific accomplishments in physics, mathematics, or computer and information sciences.
Each laureate will receive €100,000, provided by the L’Oréal Foundation in partnership with UNESCO. The award ceremony will take place in June 2027 during the “Women in Science” week.
Eligibility and nomination rules:
1. The nominee must have a distinguished scientific contribution recognized at the international level in one of the specified fields.
2. The nominee must have been active in research in recent years.
3. The nominee must have worked in the geographic region for which she is nominated for at least ten years.
4. Nominations must not be self-nominations, family nominations, or submissions from research teams; they must be made by a distinguished scientist holding a doctoral degree.
5. Nominees who have contributed to education, mentorship, and support for the Sustainable Development Goals are encouraged.
6. The prize may not be awarded to the same person more than once.
7. There is no age limit for applicants.
Required documents:
The nomination file must be submitted in English through the award’s official online platform and should include:
- A nomination letter from the nominator explaining the reasons for nomination (200–400 words).
- A short citation describing the scientific achievement and its societal impact.
- A detailed curriculum vitae.
- A complete list of scientific publications, highlighting the top ten publications with a brief statement of their significance and the citation counts for each.
- A list of patents, if any.
- Three to five letters of recommendation from prominent scientists outside the nominee’s institution.
Submission dates:
- Nominations open: 6 April 2026
- Nominations close: 30 June 2026
Registration instructions:
- Nominees must log in to the online platform and upload all required documents to complete the application.
- Applicants who participated in previous cycles will be required to reset their password upon first login, in accordance with data security procedures and the General Data Protection Regulation. New applicants must create a username and password before uploading files.
