The Purpose of Scientific Research: Balancing Contribution to Knowledge and Professional Development
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Masoud El-Badawy, interim Dean of the Faculty and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, and organized by Dr. Mostafa Ahmed El-Bahloul, Director of the Scientific Research Support Unit at the faculty, a lecture titled “The Purpose of Scientific Research: Balancing Contribution to Knowledge and Professional Development” was held. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Hamed, Professor of Mechanical Power Engineering, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 9 PM online via Microsoft Teams.
The event was attended by faculty members, assistants, and postgraduate students from inside and outside the faculty and other universities, who actively engaged with the speaker on various topics.
The lecture covered several key points: it began with basics in science, knowledge, and engineering, then addressed questions for new researchers about the differences between theoretical and applied research. The Apollo space project was discussed as a major research example, highlighting the importance of practical research and interdisciplinary integration. The speaker also outlined key traits of successful researchers that help achieve research outputs, career advancement, and professional success. The session concluded with a Q&A discussion.
