Civil Structural Engineer Job Description

Introduction

We are looking for a qualified and proactive Civil Structural Engineer, willing to contribute to CERN, one of the world's most complex and exciting scientific facility.

As a Civil Structural Engineer, you will join the  Infrastructure and Building Safety Engineering Section  - Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Protection (HSE) Unit.

Functions

You will:

·  Check and verify design calculations of structures drawn according to the European and Swiss standards.

·  Provide support to the design and assessment of standard and non-standard structures.

·  Perform applied research activities in the field of structures exposed to accidental and extreme events, such as fire and earthquake.

·  Provide technical guidance and inputs for the scoping and preparation of vulnerability assessments for CERN structures and infrastructures.

·  Evaluate the integration of safety requirements in engineering solutions provided by CERN technical departments.

·  Provide support in safety audits and technical reviews.

·  Check the conformity to safety requirements of engineering and tendering specifications.

·  Write CERN safety documentation.

·  Participate in the HSE-OHS group's projects/experiments safety support activity for CERN projects, to follow-up and to coordinate internally different contributions from safety specialists.

Qualifications

Master's degree in civil structural engineering.

Technical competencies

  • Good knowledge of the Eurocodes.
  • Good knowledge of coding using one of the common programming languages such as Python or Matlab.

Duration

Up to the end of 2024 at least.

Language skills

Spoken and written English: ability to understand and speak in professional contexts would be an advantage. Ability to draw-up technical papers and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations. Knowing spoken and written French also is considered as an asset.

Allowed subsistence

4000 CHF/month.
