24th International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON 23)
The activities of the “Twenty-Fourth International Middle East Power Systems Conference” were launched today, Tuesday, December19, 2023 at the Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University, under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
In the presence of Professor Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, Professor Dr. Ibrahim Megahed, Chairman of the Conference’s Leadership Committee, Professor Dr. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Professor Dr. Sherif Al-Badawy, Interim Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr. Akram El Metwally, Head of the Electrical Power Department and Chairman of the Conference.
Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater emphasized the importance of energy in our daily activities, especially electrical energy, which is an essential axis in the development plan of the Egyptian state and its endeavor to improve the quality of the Egyptian citizen life achieving efficiency and sustainability by gradually shifting towards safe and renewable energy sources, according to the finest technology available in the world. The conference seeks to find innovative solutions that help in overcoming challenges of energy efficiency and sustainability, to which the university pays great attention in its plans and research projects, believing in the impact of energy on the progress of the nation and improving the lives of citizens. Since its inception, the Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University has sought to develop scientific programs at all levels, in accordance with quality standards that would raise the level of scientific research at the university.
Professor Dr. Ibrahim Mujahid said that the conference has witnessed great development over the years, during which the challenges facing electrical energy were discussed, which are in line with developments in electrical power engineering. The conference has become a platform for scientists and researchers from all over the world where they present original ideas in scientific research and applications in the field of energy.
Professor Dr. Tariq Ghalwash indicated that the conference comes in line with the vision of the university and the graduate studies and research sector in stimulating and encouraging researchers and scientific research, due to our deep belief in the value of science and its role in developing society and finding solutions to the problems it faces in various aspects of life. Therefore, the university makes great efforts to support science and researchers in the form of establishing and developing many research laboratories and financing research projects, which had an impact in improving the university’s ranking globally. The conference discusses energy and environmental issues, and the challenges this sector faces in a serious effort to find innovative solutions to achieve a basic goal of the Egyptian state in providing energy. Sufficient, safe and sustainable, in a way that suits the economic and environmental conditions to improve the quality of life throughout Egypt.
Professor Dr. Akram Al-Metwally added that the conference aims to present scientific and technological progress in the field of electrical energy and related topics. It is also an opportunity to exchange ideas and visions, cooperation and rapprochement between researchers and industrialists. The conference includes:
6 scientific lectures by Egyptian and overseas scientists, in addition to presenting 177 research papers, including 163 by Egyptian authors representing 40 universities, research centers and institutes and 14 by foreign authors from outside Egypt. The conference discusses 223 papers during 25 scientific discussion sessions. The conference’s researches address the challenges facing the electrical energy system in the operation and control sectors, in addition to maximizing the benefit from and developing renewable energy applications.
Professor Dr. Sherif Al-Badawy indicated that the Faculty of Engineering is hosting the conference activities this year with the participation of a group of scientists and researchers in the field of electrical energy to exchange inventive ideas, as the conference activities are discussed in 13 research fields. He also expressed his hope that the conference outcomes might provide innovative solutions that help in overcoming energy challenges and problems in Egypt.
