Diabetes Medical Awareness Program

A Diabetes Medical Awareness Program took place on Monday, December 6, 2021 in the Faculty of Engineering under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Dean of the faculty and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sahar Sedky, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.

Dr. Salwa El-Sayed at the General Administration of Medical Affairs at the university, went on a field tour where she met students. She provided the students with guiding information about diabetes, such as: Introducing the types of diabetes, symptoms that appear on the patient as excessive thirst, frequent urination, feeling very hungry, unjustified weight loss, fatigue when doing a little effort, blurring of vision, slow healing sores,and frequent infections.

She also clarified the causes of diabetes, including a defect in the cells of the pancreas, genetic predisposition, excess weight, poor psychological state, unhealthy eating habits by excessive intake of sugars.
She explained complications of diabetes, such as cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, retinal damage, Alzheimer's disease.

Dr. Salwa explained how to diagnose diabetes and to reassure a person about this disease through blood tests to detect the infection. Tips to avoid diabetes were provided; including eating proper nutrition, increasing physical activity, getting rid of excess weight, and trying to maintain a psychological state.
