Mansoura Faculty of Engineering Student Team Wins First Place for Inventing an Egyptian Firefighting Robot
A student team from faculty of engineering won first place in the Academy of Scientific Research competition for inventing an Egyptian robot that extinguishes fires in factories or oil depots, which result in huge material and human losses, among civilians and firefighters.
The team in the Production Engineering and Mechanical Design Department includes:
Ahmed Ashraf Abdel Raouf, Amira Abdel Wahab Mohamed Al Shahat, Al Hussein Saleh Mahmoud, Mohamed Ahmed Al Khader Mohamed Aita, Mohamed Mamdouh Abdel Latif, Mohamed Najah Sayed, Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed, and Nourhan Abdel Nasser Al Metwally.
The team succeeded in designing the robot with 95% Egyptian components to be the first robot directed for remote firefighting operations in factories, industrial warehouses, or petroleum companies.
The team created the firefighting robot after numerous studies and statistics conducted by the work team on the numbers of deaths and losses resulting from fires.
The primary goal of the project is to reduce human and material losses because the robot is remotely controlled and performs many tasks. First, it is equipped with a robotic arm and a water hose that directs the water toward the fire, second is the extinguishing cylinders, the appropriate cylinders is used according to the type of fire using foam and a specific powder to extinguish oil and electricity fires which are difficult to extinguish with water.
It is controlled at a distance of 1 kilometer to keep firefighting personnel safe, away from toxic gases, flames, and building demolition. It is also equipped with a self-cooling system and is designed with metal materials that withstand high temperatures, allowing it to extinguish fires before they devour factories and warehouses. The robot can climb on dust, sand, and floors. It is not paved as it rides on a tank-like platform. It is also equipped with a camera to control it and a thermal camera that directs it towards the heat and fires to extinguish them immediately. The robot’s speed is 11 km/hour.
The robot can be controlled in more than one way, starting with using wireless control, so you can remotely control the robot. The robot also supports artificial intelligence techniques. It can detect the presence of rising fires or a thermal glow resulting from a fire without its consequences, and extinguishes the flames alone without human control. It also supports virtual reality technologies. Modern virtual reality glasses can be worn and the robot can be controlled using smart gloves that facilitate its control and access to the most difficult places and movements of the robot. The combination of control capabilities inside the robot produces an extremely powerful and easy-to-use vehicle.
The robot is characterized by the ability to confront fires under any circumstances and in any environment. This robot was designed specifically to protect industrial areas and add to the safety systems in various facilities, which makes factory owners and companies stop worrying about various fires. The advanced robot technology and the interconnectedness of its design and features make the robot a powerful solution to fire problems and an addition to the protection systems in various facilities. This robot is the beginning of an industrial revolution in the world of security systems and fire extinguishing systems.
