Report on an Interactive Symposium Entitled "A New Vision for Water and Climate in Egypt"

The Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University organized a symposium entitled "A New Vision for Water and Climate in Egypt" under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Tariq Hafez, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Azim, Dean of the Faculty, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sherif Masoud Al-Badawi, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and the participation of Pro. Dr. Sahar Sedky, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 10:00 am in the hall of Prof. Dr. Magdy Abu Ryan Faculty Conference.
The activities of the symposium began, where Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Azim, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the panel, participants and attendees, then he spoke briefly about the Faculty of Engineering as a great edifice and its honorable history, after that he spoke about the idea and beginnings of specific programs in the faculty and how they have developed. He talked about the work system in the faculty of engineering with regard to the performance of the faculty member towards students, as he indicated that now there is no alternative to working seriously. Prof. Abdel-Azim announced that the faculty of engineering, Mansoura University won first place in the Government Excellence Award, as this was met with continuous applause from all attendees for this wonderful news.
Next, the axes of holding the symposium were explained, where the characteristics of the Egyptian climatic elements were clarified, the type of climate in Egypt, the current and future opportunities for the climate of Egypt, and how to transform the climate challenges in Egypt into opportunities for success.
The causes that lead to water scarcity, such as population increase, wars between countries, and how water is used, were also addressed, as well as the causes that lead to water pollution, such as the massive revolution in various industries and the discharge of waste into the water. Different ways of facing the problem of water scarcity, such as the use of machines to filter water from the salts and chemicals, but this method is limited in use due to its high costs, and the necessity of expanding the use of groundwater, disseminating educational policies for water use.
At the end, a question-answer session took place between the presenters and all attendees.
