Report of the Arizona Convention on Excellence in Energy Meeting

On Monday, July 4, 2022, a delegation representing the Excellence in Energy Agreement visited the Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University, whose members are : Prof. Dr. Walid Al-Khattaim - Ain Shams, University-Dr. Ahmed Aisha University of Arizona, and Mrs. Dalia Thabet, Agreement Administrative Coordinator.

The visit ceremony began with a protocol meeting with Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Dean of the faculty, then a meeting was held with Prof. Dr. Sahar Sedky, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Sherif Massoud, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hamed, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, and Prof. Dr. Akram El Metwally, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, where the following issues were discussed:

First: The work plan in the agreement, the proposed activities and how to coordinate among the three universities participating in the agreement, the University of Arizona and the USAID. The details of developing laboratories and updating courses to be compatible with energy materials at the University of Arizona were also discussed.

Second: It was agreed that seminars and workshops would be held among the three universities involved in implementing the agreement, provided that a workshop would be held once every two weeks.

Third: A meeting was held with a group of faculty members interested in energy research where energy research topics were discussed, how to form research groups, the expected funding volume, and opening dates for applications.

Fourth: A meeting was held with a group of students interested in applying for the energy grant to spend a full term at the University of Arizona at the expense of the agreement, in accordance with the terms of application and the facilities specified in the
A tour was conducted for all attendees concerned with implementing the agreement in the laboratories of the Electrical Engineering Department, evaluating the current status of the laboratories, how to develop them, and using the Digital Kit to facilitate students’ use of online laboratory experiments.

The meeting ended at half past four in the afternoon. The attendees agreed to continue work to activate all provisions of the agreement.
